Newberry High School Players to Shine in 77th Annual Touchstone Energy Bowl

NEWBERRY — Big news is coming out of Newberry High School, as excitement fills the air with the announcement of the players representing our school at the 77th Annual Touchstone Energy Bowl. Two of our talented senior athletes, wide receiver Calab Levy and linebacker Jared Acosta, have been named to the South team!

Celebrating Their Achievements

Calab Levy has been nothing short of spectacular this season. His skills on the field have made him a true offensive weapon for the Bulldogs. Just recently, he achieved an impressive milestone by recording a game with over 200 yards receiving! Not only does he lead the team in receiving yards, but his consistent performance has been a crucial part of Newberry’s success this year.

Then there’s Jared Acosta, who has been a powerhouse on the defensive end. Not only is he leading the team in tackles, but he’s also well on his way to celebrating a remarkable third consecutive 100 tackle season. This accomplishment speaks volumes about his hard work and dedication. To top it off, Acosta has been recognized as a two-time all-state selection and was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year by the Observer in 2023. Talk about some stellar credentials!

A Coach to Lead the Charge

Excitingly, Levy and Acosta will not be alone at the Touchstone Energy Bowl. Their head coach, Cedrick Jeter, has also been selected to coach the South team! With his guidance and leadership, the talented trio will have the chance to showcase their skills on a grand stage. Coach Jeter’s selection as a coach speaks volumes about the character and talent of our team!

Mark Your Calendars!

The game is set to take place on December 21 this year. Originally, the date was pushed back due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, but now fans are gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable matchup. So, whether you’re cheering from the stands or supporting your players from home, this is an event not to be missed!

A Community United

The entire Newberry community is rallying behind Levy and Acosta as they take this opportunity to represent our school. The pride in our athletes and their achievements resonates throughout the town. This game is more than just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of teamwork, perseverance, and the spirit of Newberry!

As the date approaches, school spirit is in the air, and the buzz among the fans is palpable!
