Scott Gymnasium. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation, and the players didn’t disappoint, showcasing a thrilling game that ended with a commanding score of 54-33 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.

A Streak of Success

This victory was particularly significant for the Lady Bulldogs, marking their second consecutive win in region play. With this achievement, Newberry now boasts an improved record of 6-12 overall and a solid 2-0 in the competitive region 4-AAA. Meanwhile, Fox Creek’s record slid to 5-10 and 0-1 in the same region, shedding light on the growing prowess of Newberry’s program.

Just a few days prior, on January 14th, the Bulldogs celebrated a victory against Silver Bluff, where they ignited a spark in their performance, racking up their second highest point total of the season. However, as they faced Fox Creek, it was clear they were ready to keep that momentum rolling.

Game Highlights

The game had a captivating start; it may have seemed like the Bulldogs were warming up slowly, but they quickly found their rhythm. After a rather uneventful initial few minutes, the team executed an exhilarating 18-0 run to close out the first quarter, leaving their eager fans roaring with approval. By the end of the first, Newberry held a dominating 19-2 lead, thanks in part to junior guard Daizee Williams, who lit up the court with 13 points, seven of which she scored during that impressive quarter.

As the second quarter unfolded, however, the Bulldogs faced challenges, including a spate of nine turnovers, which let Fox Creek find their footing. But even with these hiccups, Newberry managed to keep their lead substantial, heading into halftime with a comfortable 29-15 edge.

Fox Creek came out charged in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Bulldogs 26-19 during that stretch. Thus, as the two teams prepared for the final quarter, Newberry was still ahead with a score of 38-28, but tension was palpable.

Fourth Quarter Comeback

With the game hanging in the balance, the Bulldogs regrouped and shifted up a gear in the fourth quarter. Displaying their determination and teamwork, they managed to extend their lead back to 15 points. Contributing to this successful strategy was sophomore center Alicia Allen, who stepped up off the bench with an impressive performance, adding eight points and snatching seven rebounds.

Additionally, Jasmine Robinson also delivered, contributing 12 points to the Bulldogs’ total. All the while, the Newberry team demonstrated dominance in every phase of play, ultimately sealing the win, which has fans buzzing with anticipation for what’s next.

Looking Ahead
