When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered a man lying outside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower torso. This victim informed investigators that there was another person inside the house who might also have been shot.

The deceased was later identified as Kier Leon Marsh, a 31-year-old resident of Broadway, North Carolina, who, at the time of the incident, lived at the Green Meadows Drive address.
