Newberry Opera House Celebrates the Holidays with Music, Deals, and Cheer

Newberry Opera House Shines Bright This Holiday Season

Hey there, friends! If you’re looking for a sparkling gem in the heart of South Carolina, look no further than Newberry. This delightful town boasts the stunning Newberry Opera House, a historic venue that has truly come back to life in recent years. Built way back in 1881, this beautiful structure sits halfway between Columbia and Greenville and has a history that many towns would envy. Thankfully, it was rescued from demolition in the late 1990s and has since been recognized with several awards, including the title of Outstanding Theatre by the League of Historic Theatres.

A Night to Remember

I recently had the pleasure of attending an unforgettable event—the “Paper Airplane Request Tour” starring the incredibly talented Ben Folds. If you haven’t experienced this tour yet, it’s quite unique! Audience members are invited to write down their song requests on a piece of paper, fold them into little airplanes, and then launch them right onto the stage. I have to admit, my toss could use a little work—my airplane took a nosedive—but others in the crowd had great success with their launches, calling out hits like “Brick” and “Rockin’ the Suburbs”.

Exploring Downtown Newberry

Before the show, I took a delightful stroll through downtown Newberry. The streets were alive with the spirit of the season, thanks to the charming neon signs and twinkling holiday lights. I also peeked into a local ballet studio where young dancers were practicing their pointe. What a heartwarming sight! If you’re thinking about grabbing a bite to eat before or after a performance, you’ll be happy to know there are several fantastic restaurants just a hop, skip, and jump away. And if you need to park, don’t worry—there’s plenty of easy parking available as well.

Holiday Discounts Await!

As if that wasn’t enough, the Newberry Opera House is also currently running a fantastic promotion called “12 Days of Deals”. This is the perfect opportunity to snag discounted tickets for upcoming shows! For example, you can enter the code “ELFSAVINGS” to get 25% off Puccini’s Tosca, or use “MERRYDEALS” for 35% off tickets to see Hannah Dasher. If you’re feeling lucky, enter “HOLIDAYTREATS” to score 50% off Celtic Angels Ireland! It’s a great way to treat yourself or to find a wonderful holiday gift for a loved one.

A Welcoming Atmosphere

From the moment you walk into the Opera House, the warm and friendly staff make you feel right at home. The acoustics in the building are phenomenal, which really enhances the overall experience of any performance. I regret missing The Red Clay Strays last year, as this Mobile, AL band has exploded in popularity and quickly sold out a recent show at the Township Auditorium.

Plan Your Visit

If you haven’t yet made plans for a holiday outing, consider heading over to the Newberry Opera House. With something for everyone—whether your heart beats for opera, jazz, country music, or storytelling—there’s sure to be a show that captures your interest. Don’t forget to take advantage of “12 Days of Deals” while you can!

So, who’s ready to join me for an evening filled with magic, laughter, and music at the Newberry Opera House? I know I am!
