Newberry City to Temporarily Close Road for Utility Upgrades Starting August 12

City of Newberry to Begin Temporary Road Closure for Utility Upgrades

NEWBERRY — Starting on Monday, August 12, the City of Newberry Utilities Department will kick off a significant project aimed at enhancing the electric system along Wilson Road. This initiative, which will span from Kinard Street to Johnstone Street, involves reconductoring and changing out utility poles to improve the capacity of the city’s electric services.

Project Details

According to Tim Baker, the utility director, the purpose of the project is to “allow a greater electric-current-carrying capacity.” The work is expected to primarily take place during the hours of 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.. During these times, motorists should be aware that the right eastbound lane of Wilson Road, also known as Highway 76, may be closed temporarily. Despite this lane being closed, the left eastbound lane is expected to remain open to traffic.

Duration of Work

The project is projected to continue for approximately 12 weeks. Baker assured residents that there would be no anticipated power outages as a result of this work. He expressed appreciation for the community’s patience, noting the importance of the upgrades for providing reliable service. “This work is necessary to continue to provide reliable service to customers and to provide redundancy in this area,” he added.

Community Impact

Residents and drivers in Newberry should plan their routes accordingly during the construction period. With the right lane on Wilson Road being temporarily closed at times, it is advisable to expect possible delays, especially during nighttime travel. However, the city officials are optimistic that this project will ultimately enhance the reliability of electric services in the area.

Conclusion

As the City of Newberry moves forward with this crucial utility upgrade, community members are encouraged to stay informed and flexible regarding their travel plans. By investing in enhancing the electric system, the City is taking steps to ensure that the residents of Newberry continue to receive the best possible service.

For more updates on this project, residents can follow local news outlets or check with the City of Newberry utilities for ongoing information as the project progresses.
