Competing against a staggering total of 93 teams, our talented Wolves came together to secure an impressive 26th place finish. Not too shabby for such fierce competition!
Resilience and Grit on Display
The event was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination, demonstrating their skill across various weight classes. Each wrestler brought their own charm and power to the mat, reminding everyone that they’re a formidable force to reckon with in the world of collegiate wrestling.
Bashir Rostami Takes Center Stage
One of the stars of the event was none other than Bashir Rostami, competing in the 149 weight class. Rostami stepped onto the mat with a fire in his belly, racking up an astounding total of five wins and earning a noteworthy 11 team points. His opening round was particularly exhilarating, as he achieved a swift pin against Drevon Wallace (Allen) in just 2 minutes and 12 seconds! Talk about making a grand entrance!
But that was just the beginning for Rostami. He showcased his exceptional skills through several matches in the consolation rounds, where he recorded two technical falls and a major decision. The excitement continued to build until his run in the competition came to a nail-biting end in the consolation semifinals, where he faced Joabe Araujo (Reinhardt) and unfortunately fell short in a close 10-7 loss.
Des Marshall’s Winning Streak
Another standout performer was Des Marshall, who wrestled in the 174 weight class. Marshall faced an early hiccup but turned his fortunes around with an impressive three-match win streak. His comeback included a dazzling pin against Luke Porterfield (Clarksburg Coyotes) in a stellar 1 minute and 8 seconds. To top it off, he secured a commanding 13-5 major decision victory against Hunter Macklin (UNC Pembroke Unattached). Marshall’s journey, however, concluded in the consolation fifth round, but not without leaving a mark.
