Omaha, NE – The Omaha Marian Crusaders showcased their strength at the Lincoln Northeast volleyball invite on Saturday, taking home the trophy after defeating Waverly, who is currently ranked No. 6 in Class B. The championship match ended in a convincing sweep for the Crusaders with set scores of 25-15 and 25-21.
In the first set, the Crusaders quickly established dominance, building a significant lead of 19-12 at one point. However, the second set proved tougher for Omaha Marian. The Vikings sprinted to an early lead, going up 7-2, prompting a timeout from the Crusaders. This break allowed Omaha Marian to regroup, and they climbed back, eventually taking a 19-18 advantage before sealing the match.
Also participating in the tournament, Lincoln North Star, ranked No. 10 in Class A, faced a challenging day, losing both of their matches. In their first encounter against Waverly, the Gators fought hard but fell in three sets, with scores of 25-22, 24-26, and 15-25. Their second match was equally tough, as they lost to the No. 9 ranked team from Class B, Gretna, with set scores of 25-23, 22-25, and 23-25. In this match, Elle Heckenlively from Gretna stood out with an impressive 11 kills.
The host team, Lincoln Northeast, finished the day at 1-1. They had a tough loss to Lincoln Standing Bear with set scores of 24-26, 25-16, and 17-25, but they bounced back with a solid performance against Lincoln Southeast, winning in straight sets, 25-19 and 25-17.
