In the early morning hours of June 25, a coordinated law enforcement operation culminated in the arrest of 26-year-old Eric Devon Davis Jr., a murder suspect from South Carolina, in Asheville, N.C. He was apprehended at a hotel located along Tunnel Road in East Asheville. Davis was wanted in connection with a homicide incident that took place at a Greenville, S.C., hotel on June 19.
According to information provided by the Asheville Police Department (APD), the successful operation was the result of close collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Taskforce and the Greenville Police Department. A task force member from the APD played a crucial role in apprehending Davis.
In a news release, the Asheville Police Department expressed gratitude to the various law enforcement agencies involved in the operation, including the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Taskforce. “This task force specializes in apprehending the most dangerous and violent fugitives in our region and their efforts play a significant role in making our communities safer,” the statement explained.
The arrest of Davis follows a recent sharp uptick in gun violence incidents within Asheville. The city’s law enforcement leaders have expressed growing alarm at these developments. According to them, although Davis’s case does not directly link to this increase, it highlights the importance of the ongoing law enforcement initiatives to curb the rising tide of violent crime in the city.
Following his arrest, Davis will now have to face his charges in South Carolina. According to sources, he will be extradited back to South Carolina where he will be formally charged and arraigned on homicide charges. It is anticipated that more details about the case will become publicly available following court proceedings and the completion of the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement officials are requesting anyone with additional information relating to the homicide incident at the Greenville, S.C., hotel to come forward. Interested parties can contact the Greenville Police Department or the Asheville Police Department with any relevant details that may assist in building the case. This collaborative and ongoing approach amongst the community and law enforcement agencies brings hope of justice in this case while reinforcing commitments to safer and secure neighborhoods for all residents.
