South Carolina Comicon: A Celebration of Fandom and Fun!
Welcome to South Carolina, where the buzz of excitement could be felt vibrating through the air as the 10th Annual South Carolina Comicon took place this April. It’s a familiar place for many, bringing together fans from all walks of life to celebrate the vibrant world of comics, movies, and everything in between. For those of us who love attending these events, this year felt extra special, almost like a reunion of friends who haven’t seen each other in ages.
The Thrill of the Guests
This year’s event didn’t hold back on star power. The guest list was jam-packed with amazing talent, including famed comic book creators Jim Lee and Jae Lee. And who could forget William Shatner from Star Trek? His presence certainly had die-hard fans buzzing with anticipation! Other fantastic guests included Nakia Burrise and Jason Faunt, both renowned for their roles in Power Rangers. Although the list of guests was extensive, these were the shining stars that left an impression on attendees, especially my companion, Kasie Strickland, who became a bundle of excitement upon meeting Shatner! The joy of seeing someone you admire in person is truly something special.
Cosplay: A Visual Feast
While meeting celebrities is a significant part of the experience, the true visual delight comes from the cosplays that attendees sport. Walking through the aisles, there were superheroes flaunting vibrant capes, Jedi wielding lightsabers, and a plethora of characters who spanned generations. It’s intriguing to see how fandoms evolve over time. This year, I discovered a newfound admiration for the show Hazbin Hotel, and boy, were there fans galore! People came dressed to the nines as their favorite characters, showcasing incredible craftsmanship in their handmade outfits.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a comicon without a nostalgic nod to our childhood! This year, Kasie and I took a delightful trip down memory lane as we spotted incredible cosplays of Muriel from Courage the Cowardly Dog and Loonette from The Big Comfy Couch. Talk about unlocking core memories! What made this discovery even more whimsical was learning that the person dressed as Loonette is actually a cousin of my aunt. How’s that for a small world?
Bringing Fans Together
Cons like the South Carolina Comicon shine as a beacon for fellow fans, drawing them in to connect and share their love. Throughout the event, I found myself immersed in conversations with fellow Whovians and comic enthusiasts. Each person I chatted with seemed to have their unique story, a personal connection to the world of comics or film that made the experience all the richer. Fandom, in its various forms, truly does bring people together.
Looking Ahead to More Adventures
As I reflect on this year’s comicon, I feel a surge of excitement looking toward the future. There are so many more events on the horizon! One particularly thrilling adventure awaits at the Soda City Comic Con, where I can’t wait to see Rose Marie Favors experience her very first convention! The buzz of excitement is contagious, and I plan to bring my camera along to capture all the joyous moments.
In summary, the 10th Annual South Carolina Comicon was a hit, brimming with laughter, creativity, and community. Events like these remind us of the pure joy of fandom and the incredible connections we can forge through shared interests. Here’s hoping to many more comicons filled with everything that makes us fanatics at heart!
