The South Carolina Gamecocks are gaining serious momentum on the recruiting trail, officially adding four-star safety J’zavien Currence to their roster for the class of 2026. Currence, currently the top-ranked prospect in South Carolina, announced his commitment on Thursday, further solidifying Coach Shane Beamer’s efforts to enhance the Gamecocks’ future talent pool.

Who Is J’zavien Currence?

J’zavien Currence, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound athlete from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, has attracted attention from over 30 schools, including prominent programs like Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State. His impressive stats this season include eight tackles, with one for a loss, as well as seven pass breakups. Not only does Currence excel on defense, but he has also showcased his versatility on offense, completing 32 out of 49 passes for 450 yards and seven touchdowns. As of now, South Carolina’s 2026 recruiting class includes Currence, Baxter, Howse, and two linebackers, Rodney Colton Jr. from Newnan, Georgia, and Keenan Britt from Oxford, Alabama.
