News Summary

National Signing Day brought excitement to South Carolina as high school athletes celebrated their commitments to collegiate sports. With standout performances and community support, the day highlighted the achievements of talented players like Donovan Murph, who signed with the Gamecocks. Meanwhile, Clemson experienced a quieter day, continuing a trend over the past three years. The state shows its promise for 2025 recruiting, with schools celebrating a bright future in athletics.

Excitement in South Carolina and Clemson as National Signing Day Brightens Futures

Welcome to the Palmetto State where February is not just about hearts and flowers, but also about dreams and ambitions! The first Wednesday of February, known as National Signing Day, brought a flurry of excitement for student-athletes across the country, including our very own South Carolina and Clemson. For many talented young athletes, this day is a pivotal moment, marking the transition from high school to collegiate sports.

Celebrating Young Talent Across Our High Schools

As high schools throughout the state celebrated their athletes, communities came together to witness the commitment of student-athletes who will continue their sports careers at the collegiate level. Many schools made this day special with ceremonies and cheers from family, friends, and faculty members excited to honor their achievements.

Prominent signings came from a variety of schools, including:

  • Abbeville
  • Belton-Honea Path
  • Broome
  • Byrnes
  • Christ Church
  • Daniel
  • Dorman
  • Fountain Inn
  • Gaffney
  • Greenville

Donovan Murph Chooses the Gamecocks

One of the standout moments came from Irmo High School’s very own Donovan Murph, a spectacular four-star wide receiver who has made waves in the football scene. Standing tall at 6-foot-1 and weighing 188 pounds, Murph officially signed with South Carolina’s 2025 football class and was thrilled to announce this achievement. He had previously declared his commitment to the Gamecocks on January 2, 2024, and sealed the deal on National Signing Day right in his high school auditorium.

Murph’s statistics are impressive, boasting over 2,412 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns during his two seasons at Irmo, according to MaxPreps. With offers from other top-notch programs like Clemson, Ole Miss, Colorado, and Tennessee, it’s clear he had some tough decisions to make, but he opted for the bright lights of South Carolina.

As it stands, South Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class is looking promising, currently ranked 18th nationally and 11th in the SEC as per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Clemson’s Quiet Day

On the other side of the rivalry, Clemson experienced a quieter National Signing Day this year, as the team did not sign any players, marking the third consecutive year that the Tigers have not had February signings. Their 2025 recruiting class wraps up with 15 players, which puts them at 26th nationally and fourth in the ACC.

It’s worth noting that this recruiting cycle is the smallest for Coach Swinney since 2017 and the least rated since 2010, signifying a unique shift for the program.

Spotlight on Greenville High School

Greenville High School also boasted several notable signings with students heading off to further their athletic careers. Some athletes include:

  • Parker Homesley (North Greenville University, Golf)
  • Lincoln Oles (Monmouth University, Lacrosse)
  • Maren Ryberg (Virginia Military Institute, Soccer)
  • Cara Grace Philips (College of Charleston, Cross Country and Track)
  • Hunter Taylor (Furman University, Football)
  • Tip Price (Clemson, Golf)
  • Hugh Faulker (Anderson University, Golf)

This vibrant community continues to produce talented athletes committed to making their mark on the collegiate sports landscape.

Looking Ahead

As we look forward, we can’t help but celebrate the hard work, dedication, and talent of all these young men and women who are setting off on new adventures. While some programs expand their rosters, and others lick their wounds, the spirit of competition in South Carolina and beyond remains vibrant and engaging. Best of luck to all the recruits as they embark on this exciting journey!
