In a spirit of achievement and celebration, high schools across the Upstate marked National Signing Day on February 5, 2025. This annual event is a chance to honor student-athletes as they commit to taking their education and athletic careers to the collegiate level. Classrooms and gymnasiums buzzed with excitement as 42 outstanding athletes made their commitments known, showcasing the depth of talent in the region.
While many football players took advantage of the early signing period back in December, there were still several athletes waiting to sign on the dotted line this February. It was a day filled with anticipation, with many young athletes finally seizing the moment they had been preparing for. The participating schools featured a diverse range of students from different sports, with a broad array of opportunities available to them.
Highlighted in the day’s celebrations were several notable student-athletes including:
Among the standout athletes were Chamarryus Bomar and Armoni Weaver from Westside High School. Both players made headlines by signing to play for West Virginia after decommitting from Appalachian State. This dynamic duo excelled in their positions at wide receiver and cornerback during their high school careers, establishing themselves as key players in their team’s successes.
Bomar showcased his skills with impressive stats, recording 43 catches for a whopping 1,293 yards and 19 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Weaver, despite missing four games, still managed to rack up 26 catches totaling 541 yards and seven touchdowns. Their remarkable journey wouldn’t have been possible without their strong communication with West Virginia’s assistant coach, Rod West, which played a pivotal role in their decision.
The excitement didn’t just stop there! Westside was well-represented on National Signing Day as several of Bomar and Weaver’s teammates also signed with various colleges. The overall event was a toast to the dedication and hard work of student-athletes across the Upstate. Each commitment represents not just a personal achievement, but also a glimpse into a bright future for local sports.
As these young athletes embark on their new journeys, they carry with them the pride of their schools and communities. National Signing Day 2025 has marked the beginning of a thrilling new chapter for these rising stars, and the Upstate couldn’t be more proud!
