As the fall sports season kicks off in Vermont, high school teams are already making headlines with some exciting matchups and impressive performances.

In girls’ soccer, Champlain Valley put on a dominating show against Middlebury, winning 10-1. Emery Thompson led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Penny Webster also netted 2 goals. A standout performance from Kenyon Connors resulted in Middlebury’s lone goal, but they struggled to keep pace with CV’s offensive display.

U-32 also had a strong game, defeating Lyndon 6-0, with Addie Gold contributing 2 goals. The U-32 defense, anchored by a spirited performance from goalie Anna Thomas with 24 saves, kept Lyndon at bay throughout the match.

In a nail-biter, South Burlington managed to edge out Mount Mansfield 4-3 in overtime. Evie Keblin scored a hat trick and finished off the game with the winning goal just seconds before the final whistle.

Field hockey didn’t disappoint either, with Essex beating BFA-St. Albans 4-0. Grace Symula led the charge with 2 goals, showcasing the strong offensive capabilities of the Essex team.

In volleyball, Montpelier celebrated a clean sweep against Missisquoi, winning 3-0 thanks to Abby Hess’s stand-out performance with 12 aces and solid digs. Meanwhile, Harwood rallied past Middlebury 3-1, demonstrating that they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
